Don Miguel Ruiz wrote in one of my favorite books- The Mastery Of Love:
"The emotional body has a component like an alarm system to let us know when something is wrong. It is the same with the physical body; it has an alarm system to let us know something is wrong with our body. We call this pain. When we feel pain it is because there is something wrong with the body that we have to look at and fix."
This is why discomfort should not be ignored. When you toss it aside and pay no attention, it is still there. It lies inside you brewing and developing into something worse. With pain, some of us lose our freedom, we lose our happiness and we lose our tendency to love.
The truth is, hurt needs to be addressed. We are all diverse and affliction can either make us better or worse. We all react differently to what happens to us. For some, a painful wound can grow deep, get infected and lead to further complications. Other persons learn and grow through the hurt and heal nicely as time goes by.
All wounds can heal; that's the great news. It just depends on you. What happens to you doesn't define you and you can definitely rise from the ashes. Take small steps and don't be hard on yourself. Believe in your potential every single step of the way. It truly gets better, so refuse to fear. Trust that you will be made stronger because of the mishap and that all is working out for you. Time is the best healer and it softens the blow.
One key is to always observe how you feel. Some days you do feel it coming. Catch it early so you are ahead of yourself and negative emotions won't escalate. Learn to ask yourself: How am I feeling today? When you look inside and ask, your inner being will let you know your emotional state and you will take it from there.
Remember that true healing comes from within, so be brave enough to heal yourself even when it hurts.
